Hi, I’m Lauren. I primarily work with children, adolescents, and women and have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and identity issues. Prior to entering into the field of counseling, I received a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. I also worked for several years on staff with a Christian college ministry. These experiences have contributed to my holistic approach to counseling, considering the interconnectedness of one's psychological, emotional, spiritual, and physical health on overall well-being and quality of life.

How I Help

My utmost desire is that you would feel care and compassion from me every time you walk into my office. I want you to feel a sense of autonomy and empowerment to get all that you want out of this experience. We will work together to discover and articulate what your hopes are for counseling and develop a plan to bring about these desired changes in your life. I have evening and weekend hours available to accommodate work and school schedules and in certain circumstances, I am also able to see clients through confidential video counseling to accommodate those who are not able to make it into the office for every session.

My Specialties

Depression/Anxiety

It is more common than most realize for people to go through seasons of being consumed by feelings of despair and anxiety. Rather than continuing to suffer alone, I would love to help you work through these feelings. One approach I will use to assist you in this goal is identifying the unhelpful thoughts that fuel these painful feelings and replacing them with what is true and beneficial.

Perinatal Therapy

The perinatal time frame encompasses the period throughout pregnancy through a year post-birth. While this can be a season often associated with much joy and excitement, it is all too common for women to experience a host of other unpleasant emotions as well, such as anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD (from events in pregnancy or birth), or just motherhood not being quite what you expected it to be. I want to normalize the experience of these tough emotions, help moms process in a way that brings healing, and develop coping skills that help them enjoy their motherhood to the full. I also long to create a supportive space for families to grieve the loss of miscarriage or stillbirth, as well as the pain that comes alongside infertility.

Premarital Counseling

I am a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator and I really enjoy working with premarital couples to help you best prepare for your married life together. Utilizing this wonderful curriculum, we will talk through important topics, such as finances, children, and family background, while building critical relationships skills, such as communication and conflict resolution. I have also worked through this same material with pre-engaged couples to assist in thinking through one of the most important decisions you make in life.

More About Me

In my free time, I am passionate about seeing as much of this beautiful world as possible.  I love learning about other cultures and seeing the different ways that people live. I also enjoy reading and you can usually find me in at least 1-2 book clubs at any given time throughout the year. During football season, you can find me cheering on my Virginia Tech Hokies!
